Subject: Problem sending email - sometimes it uses the mx records, sometimes it doesn't
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Domino Server
Technical Area: Administration
Platform: Windows
Release: 8.5.2
Reproducible: Intermittent
Help. Some emails sent from my application server are sent to the host, and others (most) are sent to the first MX record.
Let's pretend that the target is Somewhere.com.
Some emails to zzzz@somewhere.com go to the host "somewhere.com" (which fails), and others go to the host "mail.somewhere.com" (which is correct). It seems random.
Here's an extract from the log...
28/11/2011 05:01:09 AM Router: Transferring mail to domain SOMEWHERE.COM (host SOMEWHERE.COM [yy.yy.yy.12]) via SMTP
28/11/2011 05:01:09 AM Router: No messages transferred to SOMEWHERE.COM (host SOMEWHERE.COM) via SMTP
28/11/2011 05:01:09 AM Router: Error transferring message 0062F5B3 via SMTP to SOMEWHERE.COM 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
28/11/2011 05:01:11 AM Router: Transferring mail to domain SOMEWHERE.COM (host mail.SOMEWHERE.COM [xx.xx.xx.142]) via SMTP
28/11/2011 05:01:12 AM Router: Transferred 4 messages to SOMEWHERE.COM (host mail.SOMEWHERE.COM) via SMTP
Note that the first host is "somewhere.com" and the second host is "mail.somewhere.com"
Somewhere.com has two MX records in the DNS - mail.somewhere.com and mx3.somewhere.com - so Domino should never even try to send email to just " somewhere.com"! It should always try the MX records!
What's going on? Can anyone help me?
Regards
Tim
